Unsolicited Calls & Me

I hate picking up a call only to discover that person on the line is neither friend nor family but a telemarketer.

Even though I have added my number to “Do not Call” registry, I still get such calls as if I have registered “Please do call” registry. I have blocked all such numbers through my phone service provider.

So when one day I heard my phone ring and it showed number as +9198**, I thought it’s the call from my family or friend.

But why are they not calling from their regular number? I found out in next few mins.

Hello

Hello Ma’am, My name is Jason and we have received Microsoft server errors from your system.

That’s not possible Jason.

No ma’am we have received many errors and your system is causing crashes and we would like you to know that we offer full support to resolve this. Can you please log on to your computer and open a site www.*****.com.

Alarm in my head. I am an IT professional and well aware of such things. It is a scam. Possibly data stealing or spyware installation. I told myself it is no longer telemarketing call.

Sorry Jason, you have the wrong person. I do not need any support. Please do not call on this number again.

Ma’am please listen, please open that site…..

Have a great day. Bye Bye

Yesterday, again I received a call, incomplete number +9198**. I again thought probably a friend or family is calling.

Hello

Hello, My name is Mark and I am calling from Virtual Tech ******

And it is about what?

It’s about your computer?

My computer? Are you sure? Because I don’t own any..

Silence on other end…Dialogue not in script…probably thinking who doesn’t own a computer these days…

Aa.., so you don’t have computer Ma’am..umm….

silence again…..

Yes and please don’t call again on this number. Bye Bye

They might be from a legitimate company but their way is not, I doubt every claim they were making. I think it is a scam to trap unsuspecting people, who might not know much about internet and scams.

Sigh! How people misuse technology…

But here I am hoping that I won’t receive any more calls from them. :)

  1. sheesh! and these people get the number from other companies where in we fill our details trusting them and taking their services..it’s a big business out there to sell information like numbers and personal info !

  2. Loll, imagining the telecaller’s condition when you said that you don’t own a computer has me in splits. I have seen that DNC and polite requests for not calling are not effective but a retort such as this one definitely works. I think you wouldn’t hear from them again :)

  3. Keep your mobile nos private, share it with close friends and relatives only. Unwanted and any time calls always disturbs our daily life , the wrong use of mobile by others always creates stress.

Never use untrusted website , they may hack your Pc and valuable information.
